The first day of ski nationals is traditionally the team sprint relay, this year in skate format. The CVTC had only two athletes competing for their home clubs: Stefan Sander-Green and Colin Ferrie representing Kimberley. There are only two categories in the Team Sprint and Colin and Stefan were the very youngest of the Open Men.
Racing against a slew of very experienced seniors the boys had the 9th in their heat and did not qualify for final. It was expected that they would not qualify so this race was really more of a preparation race for the rest of the week. The conditions continued to be fantastic at Whistler Olympic Park with cold nights and clear, sunny days.
Heat results can be found here.
Tomorrow, Sunday, March 24, all CVTC athletes are racing in the10 km free technique individual start. The team has high expectations for this event, including some podium hopes in the junior category. The classic races on Tuesday will also be very important for the team. Stay tuned for results.
