It was no picnic and there were no shortcuts in Rossland today. The 15 km classic event featured the toughest course in Canada and no easy waxing conditions. Despite the challenges, the CVTC team performed quite well with Geoffrey Richards just inside the top 30 (25th) and Martin Schrama just outside (33rd). In the junior category, Colin Foley finished 5th and Sam Morris had a top result to date, finishing 10th.
Martin Schrama was "pretty happy" with his performance and confirmed the tough waxing conditions. "It was tough going on the steep and long climbs. I found that my skis would ice up a bit - we were on hard wax - and I would have to scuff it off over the top in and into the downhill."
"Overall I think the guys are happy with how they performed. Andy Avis had a tough crash, featuring a broken pole and a tweak to a leg muscle, so called it a day a bit early."
After competing in 6 races in 16 days, the team is looking forward to a rest - but happy with the early season tune-up.
The team will now enjoy a couple weeks of training and Christmas before heading to Canmore for the World Junior/U23 selection races in early January.
