It was another good day for the Callaghan Valley Training Centre in Silver Star. In the junior category, CVTC qualified all four athletes in the top 30 and sent Colin Foley right through to the A-final to finish 5th. In the open category, the CVTC qualified two athletes, with the top finish going to Martin Schrama in 9th place.
The top story of the day occured in the open men category when Martin Schrama threw down his best result in the past two years, by placing 9th overall. Martin has not often progressed into the round of heats as a senior so this was a big step and huge breakthrough performance for him.
"Silver Star is one of my favourite places to race and train so I'm not surprised to have some great results here," said Schrama. "This was a huge day for me. I've been working very hard this year on all aspects of my fitness so I'm really happy to see it pay off like this."
The rest of the team, while not ecstatic with their results, still had admirable performances. Geoffrey Richards and Sam Morris both moved up from their qualifier rankings as they progressed through the heats. Andrew Avis had a very strong qualifier, and though he faltered in the heats, had a good day overall.
CVTC now heads to Rossland, BC for the next set of NorAM events and the Teck BC Cup next weekend.
