Eastern Canadian Championships Classic Pursuit

For the second time this week, Colin Ferrie won a gold medal for the Callaghan Valley Training Centre at the Eastern Canadian Championships.  Ferrie finished as the first junior (18th overall) in the 30 km classic event.  This moved him up through the pack and into 2nd place (21st overall) in the overall 3-stage event.  This is the CVTC's (and Colin's) second gold medal of the season.

The CVTC had a very strong showing in the distance event with Stefan Sander-Green finishing 4th junior (25th overall), which was a season best finish for him.  Stefan and Colin are both from the Kimberley Nordic Ski Club in British Columbia.  In the senior event, Geoffrey Richards (17th), Yannick Lapierre (20th), and Sebastien Townsend (22nd) were satisfied with their performance on a tough course.

In the overall 3-day stage event, Sebastien Dandurand finished 5th (29th overall), bolstered by his excellent skate performance yesterday.  Despite not racing classic in the past, Dandurand has picked it up quickly and even finished as 9th junior in today's 30 km classic event.

Chris Manhard, CVTC coach, sums up the weekend as excellent all around.  "There were some unfortunate mishaps, for example Stefan and Dandurand crashing in the sprint heats, but overall everybody stepped up their game and we performed very well as a team."  The team is in Ottawa until Monday afternoon and will enjoy seeing the sights: skating on the canal and visiting the war museum to name a few activities. 

Upon returning to Vancouver, CVTC will attend the Tuesday night (February 12) twonie race at Cypress Mountain.  All proceeds from these twonie races go toward the Haywood Ski Nationals event.
