Fred's Race Tale - Canmore Sprints

By: Fred Weaver

The wait is finally over! Winter has come! Since our last update we have got several dumps of snow at our home base- Whistler Olympic Park. The snow flew a later for us than it flew for our friends in Canmore and Whitehorse, but on the bright side we’ll have the edge over them in rollerskiing for next year’s dryland season.

We’re on the road again and in Canmore for the first Noram series race of the year. On our way from Whistler to Canmore we stayed in Silver Star for a couple of nights. It was a great opportunity to get in some skiing on the Sovereign Lake trails, which is always a pleasure as it’s a beautiful place to ski. The stop also gave us lowlanders (relatively speaking) a chance to adjust to the high altitude racing conditions we would be encountering in Canmore, then a week later back at Sovereign Lake. A nice little perk of our stop was it broke up our travel time, giving us two shorter drives, as opposed to one long-haul drive from Whistler to Canmore.

Now in Canmore, we’re staying at the always reliable Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge (a place that I am convinced I have spent around two months of my life in). If you’re in Canmore for a ski race, it’s the place to be.

As for the results, they went like this:
Junior:
Colin Ferrie - 5th, Sebastien Dandurand - 8th, Stefan Sander-Green - 15th, Fred Weaver- 24th, Paul Dupuis- Big Crash!
Open:
Geoffrey Richards- 36th, Martin Schrama- 39th, Yannick Lapierre - 44th, Sebastien Townsend- 48th

Everyone is rarin’ to go for our upcoming races, so we’ll be keeping you posted!
