Race Report: Gold Medal for Foley

Today's 15 km free individual start was a big one for the CVTC at the Eastern Canadian Championships.  Colin Foley skied off with one of his top results of the year, finishing 1st in the Junior Men category and also topping the CVTC team by finishing 12th in Open Men.

Today's Open Men field was huge, with 130 competitors toeing the individual start line.  Foley took advantage of skiing the trails he grew up on and skied strongly through the race to finish atop the podium.  "It was really fun to come and race where I've been training since I was little," said Foley, "I think the team had a pretty good day and I'm really happy with my race, of course."

The rest of the Junior men finished within the top 20 in their category, with Andrew Avis in 10th, Sam Morris in 14th and Liam Patterson in 18th.

In the Open Men category the top two CVTC skiers fought hard and finished a mere 2 seconds apart.  Sebastian Dandurand crossed the line 13th overall, 2 seconds behind Colin Foley and 2 ahead of Geoffrey Richards.  "It was really great to be getting splits off my own teammates throughout the race.  It really made me push harder, remembering all the training sessions and sweat we've laid out together."  Benjamin Osorio continued his upward trajectory on the season, finishing 24th.  Martin Schrama was 30th and Paul Dupuis, 50th.

Tomorrow's event is a 20 km mass start classic on the Nakkertok trails, to wrap up the Eastern Canadian Championships.
