Race Report: Strong Team Performance at Easterns Sprint

Today was the first race of the 3-race Eastern Canadian Championships.  While the CVTC athletes did not have a podium finisher, the team, as a group, performed strongly, with most athletes qualifying to the heats and semi finals.

In the Junior event, top qualifier, Colin Foley, led the CVTC team in the final, but dropped from 5th place to 7th.  Andrew Avis was not far behind in 8th place, and Sam Morris finished 10th - three athletes in the semi finals!  Liam Patterson had a strong day, also finishing within the top-20, in 17th position.

Sebastian Dandurand was the top CVTC qualifier in the Open Men's event, with a 4th place qualifying time.  When it came down to it, Dandurand ended up 9th overall, followed closely by teammate Geoffrey Richards in 17th.  Martin Schrama was 19th, Benjamin Osorio 24th, and Paul Dupuis finished 33rd.

This was Benjamin Osorio's first time qualifying into the heats this year.  When asked about how it felt he said, "It was pretty cool to be racing home in Ontario and do better than I have this year.  I felt pretty good.  I'm looking forward to the rest of the weekend!"

Tomorrow's event is a 15 km free technique (individual start).
