Sigge’s P’ayak – Whistler Olympic Park, Callaghan Valley

Colin Abbot won the 50k P’ayakentsut at the Whistler Olympic Park today, finishing the course in 2 hours 30 minutes. Colin is a member of the Callaghan Valley Training Centre team based in Whistler.  His home club is the Whitehorse Ski Club in Whitehorse, Yukon.  The first women to cross the finish line in the feature event was Kelly Geisheimer from the Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club in Rossland, BC.  The P’ayak is British Columbia’s largest ski marathon with participants from different regions of Canada and the US.

In the men’s 30k event Colin Ferrie, Jeffrey Kerkovious and Martin Schrama, all from the Callaghan Valley Training Centre, finished 1, 2, 3.  Colin is a member of the Kimberley Nordic Ski Club, Jeffrey is a member of the Telemark Cross Country Ski Club of Kelowna, and Martin is a member of the Banff Ski Runners of Alberta.

Adriene Underhill (Larch Hills Nordic Society), also a member of the Callaghan Valley Training Centre, won the women’s 15k event.

With the Olympic backdrop, Whistler Olympic Park is a venue that few others can match.
